LaDonna Bennett, of Salina, works Tuesday morning in the K-State Research and Extension Master Gardener Saline County Demonstration Garden in Kenwood Park. Bennett and other master gardeners deadheaded flowers, weeded and trimmed plants in the garden Tuesday. Training and classes through the K-State Extension Office plus 40 hours of volunteer work in the first year are required to become a master gardener. Master gardeners then must continue to volunteer 20 hours a year to retain their master gardener status.
